Today it is common to see obesity in children and a matter of growing concern too. Children who are obese from a young age have to endure a lot of physical and mental traumas sooner or later in life. Even the use of the term has been restricted to overweight due to the stigma of being called obese, but the fact is there are a lot of children who have this condition and it needs to be curbed.
The usual technique used to measure obesity is the Body Mass Index or the BMI test. It is done by comparing your weight with your height and determining an index, based upon which you would know whether you are overweight, underweight or in the correct weight. It is a popular technique and is used widely by many people around the world to determine their weight status.
Though there are a lot of physical effects that can affect the child due to obesity, it is the psychological traumas they have to go through that makes the obesity a very serious problem. The overweight children feel unconfident of themselves to carry out a task in front of a gathering; they have very low self esteem which can later on translate itself into sever depression.
The physical problems can range from diabetes and cholesterol from a very young age like the teenage years to the chances of impotency later in life. These can lead to further problems on their psychological health as well. These people are also more susceptible to easily avoidable health risks due to the high amount of fat in their body.
It is important to give the child proper healthy food from a very young age so that they don’t end up being over weight. Reduce the intake of junk food and give them fresh and natural food whenever possible.
