Stress, sadness and anxiety are normal human emotions that almost every person goes through. While these emotions are normal they can often times turn into a serious health concern should they last for prolonged periods of time. Since these emotions are normal it is hard to tell when you should turn to medications to relieve stress, anxiety and depression and when you should just let it ride out.
While there is no right or wrong answer there are several questions that you can ask yourself to help you decide if you should seek medical treatment for your anxiety, stress or depression. Here are the questions you should ask yourself.
Is there a reason for these intense emotions? If you have recently experienced a loss of a loved one or are a law student studying California bankruptcy laws you will probably have feelings of depression, stress or anxiety. If you weren’t feeling some stress or anxiety, that would not be normal. However if you can’t think of a reason you feel that way it could be time to seek medical help.
Can you shake the feeling? Many times people who are clinically depressed or severely anxious know that there is something wrong. They can just tell. If you feel you can’t shake it, or there is something wrong, seek medical help.
Do you entertain any thoughts of harm or suicide? Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide are more common with depression than the other two but if you have any of these thoughts you need to seek medical help right away.
Depression, stress and anxiety can be difficult emotions to shake and sometimes require the help of a medical professional to overcome properly. With the help of modern medicine many people can overcome severe, prolonged periods of depression, stress or anxiety. All it takes is the ability to step forward and admit that you need help.
