‘Tis the season for sniffles and sneezes. During the winter months, our bodies are bombarded with cold and flu germs. Some manage to escape unscathed, but others fall victim to the dreaded illnesses of winter. Here are a few tips to help you navigate through the coming months, and get over illnesses if you happen to get sick.
1. Get your full eight hours
Getting plenty of sleep is essential when you are fighting off illnesses. It will boost your immune system and is a great way to stay healthy. If you happen to have gotten sick already, sleep is even more critical. The more rest you get, the more your body can fight your infection.
2. Wash, wash, wash!
Now, you don’t need to obsess over washing your hands, but it is a good idea to do it more during cold and flu season than you normally would. You touch so many surfaces throughout the day that could be harboring germs and bacteria, so hand washing is key. Make sure that you are washing your hands a good amount of time as well. These days, children are taught that they should sing their ABC’s while washing their hands to ensure a proper wash time.
3. Avoid eyes, ears, nose, and mouth
You are going to come in contact with germs whether you like it or not. So, the best way to keep them out of your body is to avoid touching your eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. These are the pathways into your body, so touching them with dirty hands is a great way to invite germs in.
4. If you’re sick, stay home!
Whether you have to cancel appointments or reschedule a carpool, you need to stay home and rest when you do catch a bug. You will recover faster, plus you will avoid getting others around you sick.
Have a safe and illness free holiday season!
